Keystone STAR 4

Center Director: Jason Fine
Assistant Director: Erin Corcoran

The Pottstown Center provides high quality early childhood education and care to children ages six weeks through twelve years. The Center offers a welcoming environment and an engaged teaching staff to build positive, nurturing relationships in a child’s early years. Infant, toddler, preschool, pre-k, and school age programs are offered at the Center with supportive transitions into each program. Care begins at 6:15 a.m. and extends through 6 p.m. each day. All School Age Before and After Care programs take place at the Pottstown Center. Transportation to and from the elementary schools in the Pottstown and Pottsgrove School Districts is provided by MELC.

The early childhood education program implements Teaching Strategies’ The Creative Curriculum and follows an age-appropriate, project-based lesson plan. This curriculum also provides teachers with an observation tool so they can fully support each child’s individual learning and communicate any successes and challenges with parents. Daily activities include reading, circle time, outdoor play, and hands-on educational activities that create a balance of learning and play for students.

The Pottstown Center ensures kindergarten readiness for every child through partnerships with Early Head Start and Pre-K Counts programs, as well as active involvement in Pottstown Early Action for Kindergarten (PEAK), a partnership with the Pottstown School District and other providers in the Pottstown community. Additionally, the Pottstown Center participates in Keystone STARS, Pennsylvania’s quality assurance program for early childhood and school age programs, achieving a STAR 4 (out of 4) rating.

Each day at MELC, you can expect that your child will walk into a happy and safe environment led by our highly qualified, energetic and friendly teachers. During the summer months, the bottom floor of the Center transforms into Camp MELC, a fun and engaging time with activities, field trips, and weekly themes focused on art, science, history, and more for children five to twelve years old.
